Catholic
Science Fiction Anthology an EPPIE Award Finalist
Fredericksburg,
VA--Is that religion in my science fiction or science fiction in my religion? Infinite Space, Infinite God, edited by Karina and Robert Fabian and published by
Twilight Times Books is a finalist for best electronically-published science fiction, proving you can have both.
"We're especially excited
because this year, there was no anthology category. The fact that we competed
so well against both SF novels and secular works shows how Infinite Space, Infinite God appeals to a wider audience than just
Catholics," said Karina Fabian.
"The role of
a current, active religion in the far future is barely explored territory. Most
SF omits religion or treats it as antithecal to an 'enlightened' future. Yet
the Catholic Church has forwarded the spiritual--and scientific--growth of Man for 2000 years.
Faith does not die, nor does how we live that faith, and we wanted to tell stories that reflected that," she said. Fabian herself has written several SF and fantasy stories with religious elements,
some in conjunction with her husband, Rob.
Infinite Space, Infinite
God features fifteen stories about the future Catholic Church. They tell about
Catholics struggling to evangelize to aliens and lost human colonies and to determine the soul-status for genetically modified
humans, genetically-designed chimeras, and clones made from the Martian sand. They
feature the adventures of religious orders devoted to protecting interstellar travelers and inner-city priests. Two stories explore how technical advances allow monks to live in solitude on the Moon and to help one
criminal learn the true meaning of Confession. The introductions discuss present
doctrine and current trends in technology to set the framework for the stories and, the Fabians say, to encourage discussion.

The Fabians’ first
anthology, Leaps of Faith, featured Christian SF and was a finalist for the 2003 EPPIE and 2004 Dream Realms awards. Karina Fabian helped found the Catholic Writer’s Guild, and Robert Fabian is
a former speechwriter for the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and writes about space policy.

Fredericksburg, VA--Is that religion in my science fiction
or science fiction in my religion? Local writers Karina and Robert Fabian’s
new book, Infinite Space, Infinite God has so seamlessly combined science fiction and Catholicism that it's hard to tell. Infinite Space, Infinite God was released by Twilight Times Books as an e-book in
